Our story

A small initiative with room to grow.

Team Smile began when a teacher and his students decided to organise kindness. That spirit now anchors a wider vision for practical, accountable impact.

Why

Because goodwill is everywhere—but people need trusted, understandable ways to act on it.

The idea that stayed

Compassion works better when it has a system.

Nearly 12 years ago, Team Smile brought students together for food-ration drives, clothing collections and Ramadan campaigns. The activity changed from year to year, but the name and intention remained.

The new Team Smile is being shaped as more than a campaign-based charity. It is envisioned as a platform where people can sponsor useful items, where merchandise helps support the mission, where schools receive thoughtful development, and where strong partner organisations receive the cases best suited to their expertise.

Team Smile should never become “an organisation that does everything.” It should become a trusted way for the right people and resources to meet the right need.
The journey

From a classroom idea to an ecosystem.

The roadmap is intentionally staged so trust, governance and operations can mature alongside reach.

The beginning

Students take action

Food, clothing and Ramadan drives establish the name and its culture of participation.

The relaunch

A clearer operating model

Team Smile defines programmes, sponsorships, volunteer roles, partner standards and transparent reporting.

The pilot

Prove locally before scaling

A focused set of campaigns and one school partnership create evidence, learning and repeatable processes.

The network

Grow through capable partners

Local chapters, vetted NGOs, educational institutions and responsible businesses extend reach.

The ambition

Build national credibility

Strong governance and measurable programmes create the foundation for international collaboration.

What guides us

Principles before scale.

01

Dignity

People are participants in their own lives, not images used to manufacture sympathy.

02

Clarity

Supporters should understand what they are funding, what it costs and what happened next.

03

Verification

Needs, beneficiaries, suppliers and partners require proportionate checks before action.

04

Collaboration

Refer specialised work to organisations with the right experience instead of duplicating it.

05

Sustainability

Combine donations with earned income while keeping commercial and restricted funds distinct.

06

Learning

Start carefully, measure honestly and improve the model before expanding it.

Financial clarity

Three streams. Three clear promises.

Merchandise revenue, direct aid sponsorships and general donations serve different purposes and should be tracked separately.

  • Merchandise: the customer receives a product; disclosed proceeds support the mission.
  • Sponsorship: funds are restricted to the selected aid item or programme.
  • General support: funds are used according to clearly published organisational terms.
